About Us

NorthWind Reads was created by three new friends (Casey, Julie and Marina - aka the founders!) who found each other through the Ottawa Girls Book Club, as all millennials do we shared a group chat trading content from Booktok and Bookstagram and one of us (we can't remember who!) shared a video about a book retreat taking place in the US. We lamented how there wasn't anything we could find for a similar experience in Canada, specifically in our area.

So naturally we decided, if you want something done, you got to do it yourself!

It took time, lots of planning and even more coffee/tea for us to start to put together concepts. We had great time visiting a few different venues in the Ottawa and Gatineau area as places to host our very first retreat. We even conducted our own grassroots research with the various local Ottawa area book groups about what kind of retreat our fellow bookworms would love to see.

We have hosted our first retreat back in November 2024 and we had a blast. Location and attendees were perfect, our partnership with local vendors was the cherry on the icing and feedback were so encouraging. 

We are figuring it out day by day, and event from event but would love to have you join us on the journey! Hoping to see you at a retreat soon!
